TASK:
Students research in small groups the most important discoveries and contributions of the School of Alexandria in order to make oral presentations.
Students should sum up the most relevant information. Presentation should take no more than 2-4 minutes. They could disguise as the roles they’re playing.
Every group will provide key information in advance in order to elaborate a chart with this information. Every student can see this chart and should guess which character/place/institution is speaking. They should also fill up gaps with the required information provided by the characters.
Each group will choose a topic among the following:
- Places: The library of Alexandria. Museum of Alexandria. Pharos of Alexandria.
- Scientists and philosophers: Eratosthenes. Aristarchus. Hipparchus. Apolonius. Euclid. Archimedes. Ptolomeo. Hero. Hypatia.
Other characters: Theon (the director of the Musaeum of Alexandria. Hipatia’s father). Orestes (prefect of Alexandria). Synesius (Bishop of Cyrene).
